KUCUKKOY
In 1462, a prince called Gateluzya from the Island of Lesbos kills his elder brother and takes the control in his hands. Trusting the Latins, he does not pay the tax he is required to give to the Ottomans. When the warnings of the Ottomans did not help, Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror `s commander Mahmud Pasha arrives at the Lesbos with an armada of 200 vessels and the battle begins. The island surrenders quickly. 200 Janissaries and 300 guards are placed in the castle on the island of Lesbos. Iorder to prevent the invasion of the island by pirates again, Janissaries were placed to where today's Kucukkoy is situated today. Therefore, the name of the village becomes "Yeniçarohori", which means Janissary. Over time, the Greeks take over management here and call the village Kucukkoy (Small Village= due to the small size of the village.
